David Warner expects opening partner Chris Rogers will find form in Australia’s second Test against India.

Rogers was dismissed for nine and 21 at Adelaide Oval.

The 37-year-old edged a good ball from Ishant Sharma in the first innings then played a loose sweep shot to legspinner Karn Sharma in the second dig.

Like many in the Test side, Rogers had a mediocre tour of the UAE in October when he failed to pass 50.

Rogers scored a Sheffield Shield century for Victoria prior to the first Test and will again open the batting in Brisbane.

Given the amount of experience he has in English conditions, Rogers was expected to bat on until the end of next year’s Ashes series.

But there are renewed calls for his yin-and-yang opening partnership with Warner to end sooner than that.

Warner was having none of it when asked on Friday.

“Bucky always trains hard, he works hard. He knows how to dig deep and score runs when it’s needed,” Warner said of the veteran, who has been his opening partner since the Ashes last year.

“We’ve been winning Test matches (prior to the 2-0 series loss to Pakistan). It was tough in the UAE for all of us.

“He’s scored over 20,000 first-class runs. He knows how to score them and I back him to come out in Brisbane and do that.”

Warner, who is in the form of his life after scoring two centuries in the first Test, added Rogers would “get back in the nets and keep working on his game”.

“Chris has got to keep being positive … and that’s what he does,” he said.

Ed Cowan has started the Shield season with four tons and would be among the leading candidates to replace Rogers, should selectors decide he is not part of their Ashes plans.
