Rimmington threat to Tas Shield batsmen

Veteran West Australian paceman Nathan Rimmington will look to rattle Tasmania’s unsteady batsmen again when the teams meet on Sunday in a Sheffield Shield clash at Bellerive Oval.

The 32-year old arrives in Hobart after a career-best 5-27 in the Warriors’ eight-wicket Shield win over Queensland last round.

And to open the season, Rimmington was named man of the match for his 7-90 figures when WA hosted the Tigers and recorded a comfortable seven-wicket win.

The Warriors are in top form, admits Tigers opener Jordan Silk.

“We know they’re going to come down with a strong squad and we’re really going to have to match it and take it to another level,” the young Tasmanian said ahead.

Coming off an eight-wicket win over Victoria on home soil, Tasmania’s top order continues to prove unpredictable.

Last match, the Tigers lost 6-34 in a first-innings collapse.

Coach Dan Marsh said stability in the top order and making runs continued to be a challenge.

“It’s something we’ve been dealing with over the last couple of years,” he said.

“It’s an attitude shift that we need to make.”

James Faulkner and Ben Dunk return from national duty to join the Tigers’ squad, while paceman Ben Hilfenhaus has been named but is uncertain to start after suffering a shoulder sprain at training.

Western Australia will be without Nathan Coulter-Nile and Mitchell Marsh who remain in the national squad.

Play in the Shield starts at 10.30am (AEDT) on Sunday.

WA squad: Adam Voges (capt), Shaun Marsh, Ashton Agar, Cameron Bancroft, Tom Beaton, Marcus Harris, Michael Hogan, Michael Klinger, Simon Mackin, Nathan Rimmington, Andrew Tye, Sam Whiteman.

Tasmanian squad: Alex Doolan (capt), Xavier Doherty, Ed Cowan, Ben Dunk, James Faulkner, Andrew Fekete, Evan Gulbis, Ben Hilfenhaus, Hamish Kingston, Tim Paine, Sam Rainbird, Jordan Silk, Jon Wells.
