Pattinson off injured for Vics in Shield

Western Australia are giving themselves a shot at an unlikely Sheffield Shield title, pushing ahead to claim a 111-run lead against Victoria at tea on the fourth day at Bellerive Oval.

With Bushrangers quick James Pattinson leaving the field after appearing to sustain an injury, WA (0-71) will look to pile on more runs in the day’s final session to set Victoria a last day target.

Pattinson, in the mix for Australia’s winter Test tours of the West Indies and England, seemed to clasp at his hip or upper leg, before leaving Bellerive Oval on Tuesday with just one ball remaining before the break.

The 24 year-old’s appearance in Hobart marks his return from a hamstring strain.

He bowled through WA’s first innings on Saturday and Sunday and on Tuesday remained unbeaten on 13 as Victoria were all out for 381 in their first innings.

WA openers Cameron Bancroft (20 not out) and Marcus Harris (47 no) have ensured a solid start for their side who need to win outright to claim the title.

Earlier it was Nathan Rimmington (3-79) who cleaned up the Victorian tailenders, leaving the favourites 40 runs behind at the changeover in reply to WA’s first innings total of 421.

Victoria’s can claim the title with a draw.
