Pat Cummins to play India tour game

Pat Cummins will step up his bid to reclaim a Test berth in a two-day match against India that starts on Friday at Adelaide Oval.

Australian paceman Cummins earlier this month returned for his first one-day international (ODI) since June, 2012.

But the 21-year-old has not played a first-class fixture since turning out for Australia A more than a year ago.

Cricket Australia and Cricket NSW have been carefully managing Cummins’ workloads and mapping out his return to regular red-ball cricket.

A series of serious injuries means Cummins has been unable to play a Test since making his memorable debut against South Africa in 2011.

India will face a far more experienced Cricket Australia XI than the side they amassed a total of 8-363 against on Tuesday.

Cummins’ NSW teammates Kurtis Patterson and Gurinder Sandhu have been added to the CA squad.

Tasmanian quick Timm van der Gugten, who has played for the Netherlands, and Victorian allrounder Alex Keath will face India after missing the first tour match.

Highly rated batsman Jake Doran, who earned a NSW rookie contract at age 17, was also drafted in.
