NZ to bowl first against Bangladesh

Injury has led New Zealand to make the first change to their line-up six matches into the cricket World Cup.

Paceman Adam Milne, who is recovering from a shoulder knock, has been replaced by Mitchell McClenaghan for the Black Caps’ final pool fixture against Bangladesh in Hamilton on Friday.

McClenaghan will be the third seamer behind Tim Southee and Trent Boult and will be in early action after New Zealand won the toss and elected to bowl.

Milne picked up his injury while making a diving catch against Afghanistan in Napier last Sunday, when New Zealand extended their winning start to the tournament to five matches.

Bangladesh have made two changes, including leaving out skipper and pace spearhead Mashrafe Mortaza.

Team management reported on Thursday that Mortaza, who bowled through a calf injury in Bangladesh’s win over England, was suffering from a sore throat.

Also out is left arm-spinner Arafat Sunny.

Coming in are two other slow bowlers, Nasir Hossain and Taijul Islam.

Shakib Al Hasan, ranked the world’s second-best all-rounder in one-dayers, takes over the captaincy.

The match is between two sides who have already qualified for the knock-out stage.

New Zealand will finish top of pool A irrespective of the result at Seddon Park.

A win for Bangladesh will lift them above fourth and mean they avoid a quarter-final against unbeaten pool B leaders India.

New Zealand: Martin Guptill, Brendon McCullum (capt), Kane Williamson, Ross Taylor, Grant Elliott, Corey Anderson, Luke Ronchi, Daniel Vettori, Tim Southee, Mitchell McClenaghan, Trent Boult.

Bangladesh: Tamim Iqbal, Imrul Kayes, Soumya Sarkar, Mohammad Mahmudullah, Shakib Al Hasan (capt), Mushfiqur Rahim, Sabbir Rahman, Nasir Hossain, Taijul Islam, Rubel Hossain, Taskin Ahmed.
