NSW 6-231 at tea vs Tas in Shield

Peter Nevill has picked up where Nic Maddinson left off, adding a handy 72 to push NSW to 6-231 at tea on day two against Tasmania in the Sheffield Shield.

Resuming after lunch on Sunday at 5-129, Maddinson (85) didn’t last much longer on the Bellerive pitch, a top edge flying high to be caught by glovesman Ben Dunk.

It ended an 87-run partnership with Nevill, who has since stepped up to reach an unbeaten 72.

The Blues wicket keeper carved out his 50 from 109 balls and is finding support from Sean Abbott (33 not out) with the pair joining for a 78-run partnership.

Ben Hilfenhaus (3-62) is the pick of Tasmania’s bowlers, his figures including the important scalp of Maddinson.

Fellow paceman Jackson Bird has 2-49 and Andrew Fekete 1-57.

NSW looked shaky as they resumed at 2-23 on Sunday, losing three quick wickets to fall to 5-66.

On day one Tasmania posted 272 for their first innings.
