Michael Clarke still keen on ODI cricket

Michael Clarke says he’s not particularly keen to skip one-day games during the Australian summer, as he feels he’s missed enough already lately.

The 33-year-old Test and one-day captain suffered a hamstring injury during Australia’s one-day series against hosts Zimbabwe and South Africa in August and sat out last week’s three-match series against Pakistan in the United Arab Emirates.

Clarke has been named in Australia’s side for the four-day game against Pakistan A starting on Wednesday in Sharjah, which is a warm-up match for the two-Test series which begins on October 22 in Dubai.

Australia will host a one-day series against South Africa in November, followed by four Tests against India and more one-dayers against India and England preceding the World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.

“Normally at this stage, I’m sitting with the selectors and working out which games I’m going to miss during the summer because, in the Australian summer, there’s always a lot of cricket,” Clarke told a media conference on Tuesday.

“I’ve tried to hide from (chief selector) Rod Marsh when he’s looked at me about having those conversations because, in my mind, I want to play every game for Australia.

“I feel like I’ve missed enough one-day cricket over the last few months.

“The lead-up to the World Cup is very exciting.”

Clarke is reluctant to consider dropping the one-day format, having retired from Twenty20 Internationals in 2010.

“I hope it’s not time to just concentrate on Test cricket because that’s not my personality,” Clarke told reporters on Tuesday.

“I feel like I’ve still got a lot to offer in one-day cricket.

“A big reason why I retired from international T20 cricket was to give myself the chance to be the best I can possibly be in the other two formats.

“It has probably given me more hunger to get back into the one-day format, missing the last couple of series.”
