Law is broken as Heat search for new coach

Former Test batsman Stuart Law has stepped down from both his roles as coach of the Queensland state side and the Brisbane Heat in the Big Bash League.

The decision comes after Queensland cricket officials met to discuss the Heat’s results in the BBL this season.

The Heat finished last in the BBL, despite the much-hyped signing of former England captain Andrew Flintoff.

In a statement, Queensland Cricket chairman Jim Holding said Law’s decision would prompt a thorough review of the state’s coaching structure.

“We are moving on with a comprehensive evaluation of our elite coaching set-up and will take the necessary steps to put in place a structure that will be best placed to deliver success,” Holding said.

Law, who coached the Bulls to the domestic one-day title last season, said he would now take time to assess his options.

Bulls and Heat assistant coach Justin Sternes will take over as interim coach for the remainder of Queensland’s season.

The Bulls currently sit in sixth spot on the Sheffield Shield ladder with five games to play, and will resume their season next Saturday against Victoria at the Gabba.
