Jordan Silk’s new 3-year Sixers BBL deal

The Sydney Sixers have signed batsman Jordan Silk to a new three-year deal ahead of Wednesday night’s Big Bash League final against the Perth Scorchers at Canberra’s Manuka Oval.

Silk, who has been one of the finds of BBL04, hitting nine sixes and 16 fours, is the tournament’s third leading run-scorer, behind only Kevin Pietersen and Michael Klinger.

From eight innings this campaign, he is averaging 67.25 and has helped guide the Sixers to victory in three run chases.

Regarded also as a standout fieldsman, Silk said there was no place he would rather be than with the men in magenta.

“It’s exciting to have the security of knowing what lies in the future, and what better place to be really,” he said.

“I’ve loved my time over the last couple of seasons at the Sixers and can’t wait to continue at the club.

“Everyone involved with the Sixers – coaching staff, support staff, players and everyone around the side – have become like a family to me, and I can’t be thankful enough for the opportunity I’ve been given up here.

“Special mention must go to (coach) Trevor Bayliss for actually giving me a run in the team at first and backing me to the hilt.”

The new deal extends his stay with the Sixers to five seasons, securing his services until at least BBL07.

Sydney Sixers general manager Dominic Remond expressed delight at the signing.

“We are very excited about securing Jordan’s services for the next few years,” said Remond.

“He has had a breakout season with the bat and is brilliant in the field, taking arguably the best two catches of BBL03 and BBL04. Most importantly, he is an outstanding young man who fits in perfectly with the culture of the Sixers.”
