Australian paceman Mitchell Johnson is hoping India continue to try to get under his skin.

Johnson was targeted in a fiery second Test in Brisbane, but responded in fine fashion with bat and ball as Australia surged to a memorable win.

“I hope so – it seemed to work for me last time,” Johnson replied when asked if he expected the fireworks to continue when the Boxing Day Test begins.

“We’ll wait and see. If they come hard at me again, then that’s great but, if they don’t, I’ve just got to keep playing the way that I’ve been playing.”

Johnson made 88 from 93 balls in a 148-run partnership with Steve Smith in Australia’s first innings that set up the win and then took four wickets in India’s second innings as the visitors struggled to 224.

After going wicketless in India’s first innings, Johnson said the hostile approach of their pacemen, verbally and with short-pitched deliveries, had fired him up.

“It gets me involved in the game,” he said.

“Even back when I first started at Shield level, guys would go pretty hard at you and I think it just got the blood boiling a little bit. It got me involved in the game and kept me sharp.

“I was able to focus on what I needed to do. I took my mind off the scoreboard at that time when I came out to bat and I was able to go out and play my game and put a good partnership on with Steve Smith that got us back into the game.”
