Ireland to bat first in World Cup clash

Ireland captain William Porterfield has won the toss and opted to bat in his side’s crunch clash with Pakistan at Adelaide Oval.

The match is essentially a World Cup octo-final, with the winner to face Australia in Friday’s quarter-final at the same venue.

Towering Pakistan paceman Mohammad Irfan has been sidelined by a hip injury, while Younis Khan is also out of the final pool fixture of the tournament.

Haris Sohail and Ehsan Adil were added to Pakistan’s XI in place of Irfan and Khan.

Ireland opted against making any changes to the side that suffered an eight-wicket loss to India last Tuesday.
