India to resume on 1-55 in tour game

Having landed in the country on Saturday night, India made a fine first impression in Adelaide on Monday.

The tourists warmed up for their four-Test series against Australia by rolling a Cricket Australia XI for 219 at Adelaide’s Glenelg Oval.

They will resume on Tuesday morning at 1-55, with Murali Vijay (32no) and Cheteshwar Pujara (13no) looking for a big score before the first Test starts at the Gabba on December 4.

The visitors are playing a pair of two-day matches before heading to Brisbane, with the next starting at Adelaide Oval on Friday.

“They haven’t had too long to recover from their flight. But they’ve come out and put in a pretty good showing to dismiss us in less than a day,” said Ryan Carters, who top-scored for the hosts with 58.

Express paceman Varun Aaron was the standout, finishing with figures of 3-72 from 17 overs.

Fellow quicks Mohammed Shami and Bhuvneshwar Kumar also grabbed two wickets each.

“A very clever bowler. Very skilful with his wrist,” Carters said of Kumar.

“(Shami) bowled mainly back of a length and starved us of runs and the opportunity to score, waiting for a chance to get a knick.”

Play resumes at 11am AEDT on Tuesday.
