Hurricanes axe Hilfenhaus for Heat clash

Paceman Ben Hilfenhaus has been dropped from the Hobart Hurricanes’ squad after a costly performance in the team’s latest Big Bash League loss.

The former Test bowler finished with 0-32 from one-and-a-half overs in Wednesday night’s eight-wicket demolition at the hands of the Adelaide Strikers.

Hilfenhaus’s omission for their clash with the Brisbane Heat was announced on Thursday and is the only change for Friday night’s match at Bellerive Oval.

He will be replaced by Big Bash debutant – right-arm fast bowler Jake Reed – who played three Sheffield Shield matches for Victoria early in 2014.

Brisbane’s top order will be bolstered by the return of batsman Peter Forrest, who has missed the team’s first two BBL matches with a hamstring injury.

The Heat will play without Joe Burns and Shane Watson who are on national duty with the Test squad.

Hurricanes squad: George Bailey (capt), Tim Paine, Travis Birt, Cameron Boyce, Xavier Doherty, Ben Dunk, Evan Gulbis, Alex Hales, Joe Mennie, Jake Reed, Darren Sammy, Timm van der Gugten, Jon Wells.

Heat squad: James Hopes (capt), Dan Christian, Ben Cutting, Ryan Duffield, Andrew Flintoff, Jason Floros, Peter Forrest, Cameron Gannon, Chris Lynn, Simon Milenko, Jimmy Pierson, Nathan Reardon, Dan Vettori.
