Hot Du Plessis keen to inflict more pain

He’s the man with the hot bat, and South African Faf du Plessis will be aiming to further frustrate Australia during the upcoming five-match one-day series, starting in Perth on Friday.

Du Plessis cracked scores of 106, 126 and 96 against Australia during South Africa’s recent triangular series win in Zimbabwe.

The 30-year-old hopes to continue his stunning form on enemy territory over the coming weeks, but he’ll have to do it with a target on his back.

“You can see they’ve got plans when you come out to bat, where they try to get you out,” du Plessis said on Wednesday.

“But in the same way, I plan for what they plan.

“So it’s just trying to be smart and thinking on your feet.

“We’re fortunate we’ve got a lot of good batters.

“AB de Villiers is the best in the world, and Hashim Amla has been so consistent over his whole career.”

Du Plessis said facing Australian pace ace Mitchell Johnson would be particularly difficult.

“You don’t get too many half volleys from him,” du Plessis said.

“I enjoy the challenge. I enjoy facing him. We’ve had some good battles.

“It will be different here than it was in Zimbabwe.

“The wickets there were a bit slower.”
