Henriques cops ban for slow over rate

Sydney Sixers captain Moises Henriques will miss the opening game of next year’s Big Bash League after being penalised for his side’s slow over rate in Wednesday’s final.

Cricket Australia said the Sixers were one over behind the required run rate during their last-ball loss to the Perth Scorchers at Manuka Oval in Canberra.

Henriques will be unavailable for the Sixers’ opening match of next year’s BBL but will be eligible to play during this year’s Champions League in India.

Each member of the Sixers’ playing squad was fined $500 but that amount will be reduced to $250 if the franchise does not appeal the decision.

The ban added insult to injury for the allrounder who missed a run out chance on the final ball that would have taken the closely contested match into a super over.

He did however give his side a fighting chance for the win when he scored a match high 77 off 57 in the Sixers’ innings.
