Hazlewood rested, Aus fielding in ODI

Australia will field first on Friday as they seek to wrap up a one-day series win over South Africa with victory at the MCG.

Australia made four changes to the side that downed the Proteas in Canberra on Wednesday, with Josh Hazlewood, Mitch Marsh, Xavier Doherty and Kane Richardson all out.

Allrounders Glenn Maxwell and James Faulkner are back, while pacemen Nathan Coulter-Nile and Pat Cummins were also promoted.

The Proteas also made four changes, with captain AB de Villiers winning the toss and opting to bat first.

Morne Morkel and Vernon Philander, who shared the new ball at Manuka Oval, were left out alongside injured legspinner Imran Tahir and Rilee Rossouw.

Allrounders Ryan McLaren and Wayne Parnell were recalled alongside Robin Peterson and Kyle Abbott.

Australia will take an unassailable 3-1 lead in the five-game series if they win in Melbourne.

But the hosts have never beaten South Africa at the MCG in a one-dayer.

“That’s news to me, but hopefully we keep it that way,” de Villiers said at the toss.

Australia: David Warner, Aaron Finch, Shane Watson, Steve Smith, George Bailey (capt), Glenn Maxwell, Matt Wade, James Faulkner, Pat Cummins, Nathan Coulter-Nile, Mitchell Starc.

South Africa: Quinton de Kock, Hashim Amla, Faf du Plessis, AB de Villiers (capt), David Miller, Farhaan Behardien, Ryan McLaren, Robin Peterson, Wayne Parnell, Dale Steyn, Kyle Abbott.
