Haddin returns to skipper NSW

Australian wicketkeeper Brad Haddin returns to captain NSW in the Sheffield Shield match against Queensland ahead of next week’s opening Ashes Test.

Haddin replaces rested national team captain Michael Clarke as Blues skipper for the clash at Brisbane’s Allan Border Field.

The fixture will be the veteran gloveman’s first taste of domestic cricket since returning from Australia’s ODI tour to India, and so too for allrounder Moises Henriques.

Spinner Stephen O’Keefe has been recalled to the team, forcing him out of the Cricket Australia Invitational XI to face England in their final Ashes warm up match at the SCG.

The Blues have decided to rest Doug Bollinger as a “precaution”, even though the former Test quick has recovered well from an abdominal strain picked up against Victoria last week.

Bollinger is currently the joint-highest wicket-taker in the competition with 10 wickets at an average of 22.10.

He joins Josh Hazlewood (shin soreness) on NSW’s pace-bowling casualty list.

Rookie all-rounder Ben Dwarshuis has been named 12th man.

NSW squad: Brad Haddin (captain), Sean Abbott, Trent Copeland, Ben Dwarshuis, Moises Henriques, Scott Henry, Nathan Lyon, Nic Maddinson, Steve O’Keefe, Steven Smith, Gurinder Sandhu, David Warner.
