Finch’s hamstring surgery successful

Aaron Finch has undergone successful surgery on his left hamstring after the Australian Twenty20 captain suffered the injury during an Indian Premier League match last week.

Finch was forced from the field during Mumbai’s loss to the Rajasthan Royals in Ahmedabad, pulling up sharply and clutching at his left leg after taking a quick single.

Scans later revealed the the extent of the injury meant the 28-year-old would miss the remainder of the IPL season.

“Finished up having surgery on my hammy, 1 night in hospital but it all seemed to go very well. Just trying to find an @IPL live stream!!” he tweeted from his Melbourne hospital bed.

Finch will have ample recovery time with no limited-overs internationals on the horizon and not being involved in Australia’s Test tour of the West Indies in June and the Ashes in England from July.

The Victorian batsman had been in a battle to shake a recent form slump.

A member of the World Cup-winning side last month, his largest contribution was a match-winning 121 against England on the opening day.

He also made a crucial 81 in the semi-final against India.
