England win toss and will bat

England have won the toss and have elected to bat against Australia in the opening match of the Tri Nations one-day series at the Sydney Cricket Ground.

Australia have left out England’s pace tormenter in last year’s Ashes series Mitchell Johnson from their side with Josh Hazlewood, Kane Richardson and Gurinder Sandhu also omitted.

Xavier Doherty and Glenn Maxwell, who clubbed 136 from 89 balls against England for the Prime Minister’s XI this week, form a two-pronged spin attack, with Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc spearheading the pace bowling.

As expected James Anderson has been left out of the England side due to a knee injury.

Teams: Australia: Aaron Finch, David Warner, Shane Watson, Steve Smith, George Bailey (capt), Glenn Maxwell, Brad Haddin, James Faulkner, Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins, Xavier Doherty.

England: Moeen Ali, Ian Bell, James Taylor, Joe Root, Eoin Morgan (capt), Rovi Bopara, Jos Buttler, Chris Woakes, Chris Jordan, Stuart Broad, Steve Finn.
