Doolan says Tassie must work harder

It’s back to the drawing board for Tasmania after the team’s Sheffield Shield thrashing at the hands of Queensland.

After just two days play at Bellerive Oval, the visitors emerged victorious by an innings and 50 runs late on Tuesday in a humiliating defeat for the Tigers.

“We just didn’t get the job done,” skipper Alex Doolan said of his side, blaming the failing batsmen, including himself, for innings totals of just 149 and 121.

Tasmania had made a few changes in their line-up going in to the match in an effort to steady chronic problems among the top order.

It didn’t work.

Doolan said team management will let the dust settle before deciding whether to rejig the XI ahead of Tuesday’s next round against South Australia.

“It’s a bit early to make any brash calls,” he said.

With three rounds remaining, all of them away matches for Tasmania, the skipper signalled a traditional approach.

“The only thing you can do is work harder and make sure that you’re up for the next game.”
