Dave Warner blasts ton against Indians

David Warner doesn’t fine-tune for anything – it’s not his style.

Australia’s opening batsmen prefers force to finesse, as evidenced by his 104 against India in Sunday’s World Cup warm-up game in Adelaide.

Warner bludgeoned India’s bowlers into submission in the glorified practice match ahead of next Saturday’s start of the Cup.

The left-hander cracked his ton from just 80 balls.

After Australia won the toss and batted, Warner faced the first ball – and smacked it through cover for four.

Warner reached his half-century from 41 balls, then cantered to his ton.

He produced an array of strokes built on pure power – there was a hook shot which barely sailed above head height before smacking into the fence on the full.

There were devastating drives, some textbook but most ripped from his unique personal playbook; some crunching cut shots; a sweet six over midwicket from a short-arm jab.

Warner reached his century in just the 26th over of the innings and saluted the crowd at a ground where he made centuries in each innings of the December Test against the Indians.

Then, mindful of the warm-up status of the match and the desire to offer teammates time at the crease, he was bowled in the next over – apparently engineering his own dismissal, Warner missed a straight one from slow bowler Axar Patel.
