Bushrangers make two changes for Blues

Jon Holland and Chris Tremain have been added to Victoria’s squad for its Sheffield Shield clash against New South Wales.

The match kicks off on Sunday in Wagga Wagga with the Bushrangers looking to bounce back after suffering an outright defeat at the hands of Queensland in the first game back from the break for the Big Bash League.

Left-arm spinner Holland and seamer Tremain come in for quicks James Pattinson and John Hastings, who have been rested with an eye on the heavy Shield schedule in coming weeks.

The Victorians are in second place on the Shield table heading into the clash with the Blues, who are nipping at their heels in third.

Bushrangers skipper Matthew Wade is unsure what to expect from the Wagga wicket, but is confident his squad has the versatility required to handle the prevailing conditions.

“We’ll take two spinners, for sure, to make sure that we’ve got all the bases covered,” Wade said.

“If it looks like there will be a bit of spin in the wicket then we’ve got two really good spinners that we can play.

“It’s going to be a tough game, but New South Wales versus Victoria are always tough games. If you’re a little bit off in this competition you’re going to get beaten – we saw that against Queensland.”

Wade was a standout in the defeat by the Bulls with scores of 152 and 58 bringing his average up to 84.25 this season.

The Blues defeated Tasmania by an innings and 91 runs in their last Shield outing.

Victoria: Matthew Wade (capt), Fawad Ahmed, Scott Boland, Dan Christian, Peter Handscomb, Jon Holland, Rob Quiney, Chris Rogers, Peter Siddle, Marcus Stoinis, Chris Tremain, Cameron White (12th man to be named).
