England pace bowler Stuart Broad channelled the spirit of Monty Python on Sunday by claiming his foot might have a crack in it, but it won’t stop him.

Broad was sent away from the WACA Ground for scans after the tailender was struck on the right foot when dismissed lbw by Australia’s Mitchell Johnson on day three of the third Ashes Test.

England’s leading bowler in the series was on crutches on Sunday afternoon during Australia’s second innings as the home side reached 3-235 at stumps, an overall lead of 369.

Broad hasn’t ruled out batting in England’s second innings and is determined to play in the Boxing Day Test in Melbourne.

He says he’s waiting on the results of MRI scans.

“I’m desperate to play a part in the rest of the Ashes series,” Broad said.

“I won’t be bowling tomorrow, but there’s a bit of a break in between this Test and the next and I’m desperate to be there.”

Broad says whether he bats again in the third Test will depend on the state of the game.

“It’s a bit sore to weight-bare at the moment but I’ll certainly bat if the team requires it,” he said.

“If there’s a small crack there and my symptoms are not painful, there’s no reason why I can’t continue to play.

“I’ve got 10 days until Boxing Day. I know a lot of ice-elevation, that sort of thing helps, and even if there is a crack, I see no reason I can’t get myself back in the frame.”

Broad says if Australia’s quicks targetted his injured foot, that’s a risk he’s prepared to take.

“It’s part and parcel of sport. You can get injured any ball,” he said.
