Perth Scorchers veteran Brad Hogg has played down his stunning bowling which helped his side record an 18-run win over Adelaide Strikers, ending their perfect Big Bash League record.

The 43-year-old earned man-of-the-match honours after finishing with 2-11, dismissing Travis Head (14) and Ryan ten Doeschate (4), while Alex Ross was run out for a duck immediately after Head’s dismissal.

“It’s just been great to still be a part of, not only WA cricket, but also in the Australia system playing a bit of first class cricket in the T20,” Hogg said.

“It’s always good to have a good performance for yourself but at the end of the day it’s about competing and winning games, and if not winning getting close to the opposition and making a good contest.

“We’re here to entertain and so far the Big Bash is doing it.”

The Strikers looked to be in the perfect position to claim their fifth consecutive win after restricting Perth to just 6-133.

But the home side were confronted by some solid bowling from the Scorchers who overcame a slow start which saw openers Tim Ludeman and Craig Simmons notch up 38 runs before Ludeman was removed in the sixth over.

The Scorchers went on to dismantle Adelaide and Hogg said that once the wickets began to fall, Perth were able to wrestle the contest away from the Strikers.

“We were always in with half a chance,” Hogg said.

“You got runs on the board and if you get a couple of early wickets you’re always a chance.

“They batted well – Ludeman and Simo (Craig Simmons) kept the pressure on and I don’t think we got a first wicket until the end of the fifth over.

“We were starting to panic a little bit there and once we got a couple of wickets things seemed to go our way.”
