Botha, Ludeman out injured for SA

A question mark remains over the short-term future of captain Johan Botha and Tim Ludeman after they pulled out of South Australia’s domestic one-day clash with Western Australia in Brisbane on Wednesday.

Redbacks physio John Porter said he was unsure when the experienced pair would be available after both succumbed to hamstring strains.

South Australia will be captained by Australia A representative Tom Cooper in Botha’s absence.

Ex-South African international Botha was replaced in the squad by 19-year-old allrounder Alex Gregory and Ludeman’s spot was filled by wicketkeeper Tim Davey.

Western Australia won the toss and sent the Redbacks in to bat at the Gabba.

“Following MRI scans yesterday, we can confirm that Johan Botha and Tim Ludeman both suffered hamstring strains in their match against the Victorian Bushrangers on Monday,” Porter said.

“We will continue to monitor and assess their injuries to decide when they will be fit to return.”

It was a major blow for South Australia (0-2 record) who are desperate to break into the winner’s circle against WA.

The Warriors are playing their first match after members of their squad recently returned home from Perth Scorchers’ Champions League T20 campaign.
