Bollinger hat-trick puts NSW on top v Vic

Fast bowler Doug Bollinger bagged a hat-trick as NSW ripped through the Victoria batting line-up for just 114 on day two of the Sheffield Shield match at Robertson Oval in Wagga Wagga.

NSW spinners Steve O’Keefe (4-46) and Nathan Lyon (3-38) did the early damage collecting the first six wickets to fall, with the Victorians conceding a first-innings deficit of 92 runs.

Bollinger had Peter Siddle caught at short leg and then clean bowled Chris Tremain, before Scott Boland was adjudged lbw to the hat-trick ball, with the former Test spearhead collecting figures of 3-16 from 12 overs.

First-drop Marcus Stoinis virtually played a lone hand for the Vics and was eventually last man out for 64 as the visitors lost their last four wickets for six runs.

NSW’s second dig started disastrously with Scott Henry dismissed by Siddle off the first ball of the innings, with the Blues reaching 1-23 at tea.

A win for either team at the first-ever Shield match to be held in Wagga Wagga would provide at least a temporary hold on top spot, with WA taking on South Australia in a match starting on Monday.
