Bailey confirmed as Hurricanes BBL skipper

Australian Twenty20 captain George Bailey has been confirmed as skipper of Big Bash League side the Hobart Hurricanes.

Bailey, who is also the captain of Tasmania’s Sheffield Shield and one-day sides, will play for the Hurricanes this summer after spending the inaugural BBL season with the Melbourne Stars.

Former Test wicketkeeper/batsman Tim Paine, who is on the comeback trail from a finger injury, will be Bailey’s deputy.

A Hurricanes leadership group will also include international spinner and ex-skipper Xavier Doherty.

“The leadership group we have established will run on very similar lines to the Shield and one-day cup formats, which is very inclusive and relies on complete input from all senior players,” Bailey said.

The Hurricanes have signed 16 players, including imports Owais Shah and Scott Styris, and have until the end of November to sign two more.
