Aust to bowl first against Pakistan A

Pakistan A have chosen to bat first in their four-day game against Australia to be played in hot temperatures with a top of 37 degrees forecast for Wednesday.

Australia have named a 15-man squad for the game including allrounder Mitchell Marsh who suffered a hamstring strain a fortnight ago.

Marsh won’t bowl in the first innings but skipper Michael Clarke hopes to have the pace bowler in action in Pakistan A’s second innings.

Opening batsman Dave Warner is being rested after straining a groin muscle in Sunday’s one-day clash with Pakistan, while Clarke returns after missing the one-day series with a hamstring injury.

Left-arm spinner Steve O’Keefe and offspin-bowling allrounder Glenn Maxwell will be keen to bowl in the spin-friendly conditions as they attempt to claim a place in the Test side alongside No.1 spinner Nathan Lyon, should Australia opt for a twin-spin attack for the first Test in Dubai from October 22.

Pakistan A have named a 14-man squad. The match is not a first-class game.

Squads for four-day game:

Australia: Michael Clarke (capt), Alex Doolan, James Faulkner, Ben Hilfenhaus, Brad Haddin, Phil Hughes, Nathan Lyon, Mitchell Marsh, Glenn Maxwell, Steve O’Keefe, Mitchell Johnson, Chris Rogers, Peter Siddle, Steve Smith, Mitchell Starc.
