Aust to bat first against Pakistan

Young quick Sean Abbott will make his one-day international debut in Tuesday’s opening clash with Pakistan in Sharjah.

Abbott has been presented with his yellow cap by Australia one-day great Dean Jones.

Pace-bowling allrounder Mitchell Marsh is on the sidelines for Australia because of a hamstring strain, giving Abbott his chance after the 22-year-old claimed 1-17 in his T20 International debut on Sunday in Dubai against Pakistan.

Australia have won the toss and will bat in temperatures in the high 30s on a white, glassy-looking pitch.

In a passionate address to the team on the field before the start of play, Jones told Abbott that Australia have won four World Cups and the yellow cap is the most feared at one-day international level.

Australia and New Zealand will host the 2015 World Cup in February and March.

Australia’s chief selector Rod Marsh announced on Tuesday that left-arm spinner Xavier Doherty would join the squad ahead of Friday’s second one-day game in Dubai.

The three-match series concludes in Abu Dhabi on Sunday.

Doherty has been called up in place of Marsh who has been ruled out of the one-day series.

George Bailey will captain Australia in the one-day series as Michael Clarke recovers from a hamstring strain.
