Aust need to pump up after break

An unfamiliar break in an otherwise hectic World Cup schedule has left Australia looking to ramp up energy levels heading into the finals.

After a busy match and travel agenda across the tournament’s opening weeks, the hosts have had a five-day gap, including three days rest, after Sunday’s 64-run win over Sri Lanka at the SCG.

And following Saturday’s clash with Scotland in Hobart, they have another five days before their quarter-final at Adelaide Oval.

Opener David Warner said it’s not always a good thing to break the momentum.

“It’s great to play back-to-back games in such a short period of time because you feel like you’re not waiting days on end,” he told reporters in Hobart.

“You have a good game, then you’ve got to go back to the nets and have a hit for three days, you sort of lose that momentum as a cricketer.

“It does help when you’re scoring a lot of runs and then you go into a game probably two days later.”

Favourites to beat winless Scotland, Australian players might not get the workout they would ideally like ahead of the knockout stage of the tournament.

But Warner said the team isn’t taking a light approach to the match.

“We need to come out and we need to win to finish where we want to finish,” he said.

“We’ve got to keep playing positive cricket, and we were a bit nervous probably toward the end there in the match against Sri Lanka but we got the job done.

“Now we’ve got to beat Scotland.”
