Aussies roll Derbyshire for 259

Mitch Marsh has warmed up for the third Ashes Test by starring with the ball in Australia’s tour game against Derbyshire.

The hosts were rolled for 259 after lunch on the final day of the first-class clash in Derby, having resumed at 2-81 on Saturday.

Marsh struck twice in his first over, slicing through the middle order in a burst of 3-9 in 19 deliveries.

Derbyshire captain Wayne Madsen, who has scored more than 7500 first-class runs, was trapped lbw by Marsh for 18.

Scott Elstone and Tom Knight were out edging to the allrounder, with David Warner and Adam Voges snaffling low catches.

Marsh later dismissed David Wainwright, with Michael Clarke moving well to take the catch at second slip.

Clarke, Voges and Peter Nevill are expected to be promoted up the order in the second innings, having missed out on a decent hit on Thursday.

Pacemen Mitchell Johnson, Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood, offspinner Nathan Lyon and in-form batsman Steve Smith were rested from the fixture.

The team will travel to Birmingham when play ends on Saturday, with the third Test starting at Edgbaston on Wednesday.

Nevill was behind the stumps for the entire Derbyshire innings, all but confirming he will stay in the Test XI after an impressive debut at Lord’s.

It means the only uncertainty over the side is whether Chris Rogers or Shaun Marsh will open the batting alongside David Warner.

Rogers ran drinks for the team on Saturday, having spent the past week in London due to his balance issues.

If Rogers is unable to prove his fitness in the next few days, Marsh will come into the Test XI.

Fawad Ahmed and Peter Siddle were also among the wickets on Saturday.

Ahmed copped some brutal treatment from Tony Palladino, who needed only 40 balls to bring up his half-century.

Palladino eventually fell for 82 off 68 balls when he attempted to bludgeon a fifth six, but instead picked out substitute fielder Lyon in the deep.
