Abbott to bowl at SCG in Shield clash

Sean Abbott will return to the bowling crease in the first session of NSW’s Sheffield Shield clash at the SCG after Queensland won the toss and elected to bat.

The match will be the side’s first since the death of Phillip Hughes at the same venue two weeks ago.

Abbott delivered the ball that felled Hughes and he was one of several NSW players in doubt for the clash.

Nic Maddinson was the only withdrawal from the Blues side which was named on Monday with Kurtis Patterson to take his spot.

Doug Bollinger and Mitchell Starc will open the bowling for NSW in a five-man bowling attack alongside Abbott, Stephen O’Keefe and Will Somerville.

Queensland have handed off-spinner Cameron Brimblecombe his first-class debut as he replaces Test quick Ryan Harris.

Joe Burns and Marnus Labuschagne will open the batting for the Bulls.
