Abbott reportedly set for Shield return

Promising allrounder Sean Abbott is reportedly confiding in teammates that he is ready to resume his playing career.

Like his NSW teammates, Abbott has not played since the Phillip Hughes tragedy at the SCG a fortnight ago – but that could change this week, with a Sheffield Shield match against Queensland starting at the SCG on Tuesday.

NSW will not need to finalise their team until Tuesday morning, but News Corp Australia is reporting the 22-year-old is set to be named in an extended squad.

The news has been shared around by the cricket community, many of whom have expressed their support for Abbott, who bowled the delivery which hit and killed Hughes.

“Brilliant News…The whole #cricketfamily are right behind you Sean…” said former England captain Michael Vaughan on Twitter.
