Abbott on the verge of Shield return

Sean Abbott has been named in an extended 12-man NSW squad ahead of the Sheffield Shield match against Queensland at the SCG starting on Tuesday.

Abbott has not played since the Phillip Hughes tragedy at the SCG a fortnight ago, but that is about to change.

NSW will not need to finalise their team until Tuesday morning.

Cricket NSW says all players will have the opportunity to withdraw from the fixture if they feel they are not ready to play.

There has been special focus around Abbott, who bowled the delivery which hit and killed Hughes.

Many people around the cricket world have expressed solidarity with the 22-year-old.

“Brilliant News…The whole #cricketfamily are right behind you Sean…” said former England captain Michael Vaughan on Twitter.

NSW squad: Moises Henriques (capt), Sean Abbott, Doug Bollinger, Ryan Carters, Scott Henry, Nick Larkin, Nic Maddinson, Peter Nevill, Stephen O’Keefe, Gurinder Sandhu, Wil Somerville, Mitchell Starc.
