Tribunal to consider Adams, May cases

The AFL tribunal will convene its first hearing of the season after Gold Coast and Greater Western Sydney opted to challenge penalties to Steven May and Devon Smith.

May, a 22-year-old key defender, was charged with rough-conduct against Brisbane’s Daniel Rich for “pole-axing” Rich as he was kicking for goal.

The Suns, who host premiers Hawthorn on Saturday night, have accepted a one-match suspension for Brandon Matera on a rough-conduct charge following a clash with Brisbane’s Jed Adcock.

The Lions opted not to challenge a two-match ban from the same game given to Daniel Merrett for striking David Swallow.

But the Suns’ fellow expansion side will take their chances at Tuesday night’s tribunal with Smith, who was given a one-match ban for striking Melbourne’s Bernie Vince.

Smith’s poor existing record removed the chance of him taking an early guilty plea and playing against the Western Bulldogs this weekend.

West Coast’s Luke Shuey will miss Saturday night’s round-four game in Geelong against the Cats after accepting a one-game ban for striking St Kilda’s Tom Curren.

Collingwood midfielder Taylor Adams will also sit out his round four match against Richmond following his bump on Geelong’s Joel Selwood.

The tribunal will sit from 5pm at AFL House on Tuesday evening.
