Tigers axe seven AFL players

Forward Aaron Edwards leads a group of seven players who are out the door at Richmond now their AFL season is over.

The Tigers announced they had cut Edwards and fellow senior players Brett O’Hanlon and Brad Helbig.

Rookie-listed players Orren Stephenson, Ben Darrou, Cadeyn Williams and Todd Banfield were also not offered new contracts.

None of them played in Sunday’s season-ending elimination final loss to Port Adelaide.

Edwards played 12 games in two seasons at Punt Road for a career total of 94 after stints at West Coast and North Melbourne.

Stephenson had seven games at Richmond after eight at Geelong.

Helbig played 16 games over three seasons, while O’Hanlon had nine senior appearances.

After 53 games at Brisbane, Banfield had no senior games at Richmond.

Those seven players join the retiring Daniel Jackson and Jake King in leaving the club.
