Tigers’ AFL coach tells players to move on

Richmond coach Damien Hardwick has warned his players to block out the pain of three agonisingly close losses and focus on the rest of the AFL season.

Tigers midfielder Brett Deledio said the players had been told not to wallow in self pity following their trio of losses by less than a goal – to Gold Coast by two points, North Melbourne by four and to Carlton last Saturday by four points.

Deledio said Hardwick insisted the players concentrate on the match against the Brisbane Lions at the Gabba on Saturday night.

“He makes sure he tells us we’re not allowed to sulk or mope around,” Deledio said on Tuesday.

“We deal with it, we move on, and we look forward to the next game.”

Richmond (7-10) need to win their five remaining matches to retain hope of making the finals.

Deledio said the club’s aim was simply to win as many of the remaining games as possible.

“We just continue to build on what we’re trying to build on,” Deledio told richmondfc.com.au website.

“We’re slowly seeing some reward, but at the moment it’s hard work.”

For the first time in his experience at Punt Road, Deledio and his teammates watched individual video reviews after the loss to Carlton on Saturday.

Normally the players viewed replays of the game as a team.

“It was quite surprising,” he said.

“It was really good, though. I got a lot out of it.”
