Ticketek crash causes AFL ticket dramas

AFL fans buying tickets for this weekend’s finals matches are fuming after a ticketing agency’s website reportedly crashed.

Fans reported lengthy delays and outages trying to secure seats through Ticketek, many airing their frustrations on social media.

It’s not the first time this season Ticketek’s website has buckled under high traffic, with the AFL forced to postpone ticket sales before round one.

The website also crashed ahead of the first week of finals.

“Another debacle this morning by Ticketek. Had 2A tickets only to be kicked out when going to payment. Time for the AFL to do something,” one Twitter user wrote on Tuesday morning.

Ticketek has apologised for “congestion” but says sales are now running smoothly.

“AFL fans. Thanks for your patience. Overwhelming demand caused some congestion, sales are now flowing as expected,” Ticketek posted on Twitter.

Some supporters said it took more than an hour to secure tickets.

“Finally successful in getting tix to #AFLHawksDogs @MCG Only took 1 1/4 hours. Who do I invoice my time to?” Damon Brown tweeted.

AFL Membership says it is seeking an explanation from Ticketek.

Hawthorn meet Western Bulldogs on Friday night, while Sydney Swans host Adelaide on Saturday in two sudden-death matches.

Tickets for two elimination NRL finals also went on sale on Tuesday morning.

Ticketek has been contacted for comment.
