Taberner earns AFL Rising Star nomination

Fremantle forward Matt Taberner has earned the penultimate nomination for this year’s AFL Rising Star award.

Taberner starred in the absence of captain Matthew Pavlich in the Dockers’ 58-point win over Brisbane at the Gabba on Sunday.

The 21-year-old, initially taken in the 2012 rookie draft, grabbed 10 marks and booted one goal against the Lions.

“He has earned his place in the team with some very consistent performances at Peel Thunder and we look forward to him continually improving at Fremantle,” Dockers coach Ross Lyon said.

Western Bulldogs’ Marcus Bontempelli remains the hot favourite to be named this year’s Rising Star.
