Swans give injured trio till Thursday

Sydney will give stars Kurt Tippett, Dan Hannebery and Rhyce Shaw until Thursday to prove their fitness for Saturday’s AFL blockbuster against Hawthorn at the MCG.

Midfielder Hannebery and half-back Shaw have missed four and three games respectively with ankle syndesmosis injuries.

Forward Tippett has been out for two matches with a left knee problem.

“We’re going to give them to Thursday to see how they come up, give them every chance, all three of them,” Swans coach John Longmire said on Monday.

“At this stage probably Dan Hannebery is the least likely of the three, but we’ll give him a chance and make the decision Thursday.”

Asked if it would be a concern to select all three in the side, Longmire said “only if we have that decision to make in the first place.

“At this point it’s hard to say whether all three, one, two, or none come back.

“At this point we’re yet to make that call.

“Our medical staff and coaches will sit down on Thursday and give them to probably lunchtime after our main training session.”

He said all three had resumed running.

“It’s just a matter of if they’ve got enough work under their belt, all three of them,” Longmire said.

“All three are at different stages and they can get better quite quickly.”

Tippett has played just five games this season, but Longmire didn’t express any concern about the big forward being short of match fitness late in their campaign.
