Swan Lloyd nominated for AFL Rising Star

Sydney’s Jake Lloyd is the round-21 nominee for the AFL’s Rising Star award.

Lloyd tallied 21 possessions and laid seven tackles in the Swans’ 71-point win over St Kilda at the SCG.

The 20-year-old midfielder debuted in round five this season and has played 15 games in total, suffering one loss.

“He’s always been an elite runner and ball getter and he’s improved the other aspects of his game,” Swans coach John Longmire.

“He’s able to play a number of different roles for us and it’s a good acknowledgement of his form to date that he’s been able to get a Rising Star nomination.

“He plays up forward, he plays wing, he can play inside and he can play half back … we want players who are flexible and who can play a number of different roles.”

Lloyd was taken with pick No.16 in the 2012 rookie draft then upgraded to the Swans’ senior list earlier this year.
