Suns to lose trio for season: report

Gold Coast have once again been hit by injury with Jarrod Harbrow and Tom Nicholls reportedly to join Trent McKenzie on the sidelines for the remainder of the AFL season.

McKenzie has already been confirmed as a casualty for the final three matches of the campaign due to a hamstring tendon injury but AFL.com is reporting Harbrow will undergo surgery on shoulder, ankle and knee injuries while ruckman Nicholls won’t be risked after hurting his knee in last week’s heavy loss to Richmond.

It’s a tough blow for the Suns, who already have captain Gary Ablett and key midfielders David Swallow, Dion Prestia and Jaeger O’Meara unavailable for the remainder of the campaign.

On Tuesday the club listed Nicholls as a week-by-week proposition after scans cleared him of any damage to his posterior cruciate ligament.

But the injury-plagued tall has irritated the capsule on his right knee and will definitely miss Saturday’s home clash against fellow strugglers Essendon.

Also set to miss the clash with the Bombers will be key forward Charlie Dixon after once again injuring his right ankle.

Dixon has struggled to overcome ankle problems during a stop-start season and Suns physiotherapist Adam Russell says it looks unlikely he’ll be able to play on Saturday.

“At the moment his ankle’s still a little bit swollen, so we will need to monitor him and see how he goes day-by-day,” Russell said.

But West Australian product Jack Martin should be available for selection after he was stretchered off against the Tigers.

The youngster has passed all of his concussion tests and will take on the Bombers if he doesn’t suffer any setbacks.

Coach Rodney Eade will also have defenders Rory Thompson and Seb Tape to pick with both expected to be available after overcoming ankle and hamstring injuries respectively.
