Gold Coast coach Rodney Eade is adamant his team’s horror form won’t deter star duo Jaeger O’Meara and Dion Prestia from re-signing.
The Suns have lost their past six games amidst a crippling injury run, and their falling crowds have also become a big talking point this year.
O’Meara and Prestia are set to receive big-money offers from Melbourne clubs, meaning Gold Coast face a major fight to retain their services.
Injured Gold Coast midfielder David Swallow could also leave the Suns despite having a year remaining on his contract.
But after re-signing star forward Tom Lynch last month, Eade is confident the others will follow.
“Both (O’Meara and Prestia) have said the results at the moment won’t influence their decision,” Eade told Perth radio station 6PR.
“It’s more about where they see their footy in the future.
“And we like to think we can paint a picture, because (if we had) our best side on the park, we’d be pretty competitive with most of the teams.
“And David Swallow’s still got 12 months to go (on his contract), so I don’t know why there’s any talk about him. David wants to stay.”
The Suns could be in for another painful game when they take on West Coast in Sunday’s AFL clash at Domain Stadium.
West Coast have been at their ruthless best at home this season, winning all five games there by an average of 62 points.
But Eagles coach Adam Simpson scoffed at outside talk that his team should post a triple-figure win.
“I’m not buying into that at all,” Simpson said.
“We think they’re a team on the rise. Yes, their form hasn’t been fantastic the last few weeks, but they’ve been decimated by injuries.
“They get four or five decent, A-grade players back this week. We’re not going to take them lightly.”
The Suns welcome back Steven May, Tom Nicholls, Gary Ablett, Clay Cameron, and Aaron Hall.
But Darcy MacPherson (knee), Sam Day (hip), Daniel Currie (finger), Jarrad Grant (hamstring), and Callum Ah Chee (concussion) were all forced out through injury.
West Coast have handed former Swan Lewis Jetta a recall, while 19-year-old defender Tom Cole will make his debut.
All-Australian wingman Andrew Gaff has been given the week off despite passing his concussion test, while Elliot Yeo will miss with a quad injury.
