Stringer wins AFL Rising Star nomination

Western Bulldogs’ Jake Stringer is the round-20 nominee for the AFL’s Rising Star award following his four-goal game against St Kilda.

The 192cm forward/midfielder from Eaglehawk made his debut in 2013, playing 10 games in an injury-interrupted season.

Stringer has kicked 20 goals in 15 matches this season including five goals against Essendon in Round 18.

Taken at pick No.5 in the 2012 AFL Draft, the 20-year-old Stringer drew praise on Monday from coach Brendan McCartney.

“Off the back of some consistent training, Jake is starting to display the obvious talents our recruiters saw in him,” McCartney said.

Stringer had 13 kicks and three handballs in Sunday’s 23-point win over the Saints at Etihad Stadium.
