Smith extends contract at Swans

The Sydney Swans have signed AFL premiership-winning player Nick Smith for another two years, keeping the 2014 All-Australian at the club until 2018.

The 27-year-old defender has played 142 games in the red and white since being recruited from the 2007 Rookie Draft.

Swans General Manager Tom Harley says they are rapt to have a player of Smith’s calibre extend his contract.

“With Nick he’s the absolute clubman,” Harley said. “He’s been a really high level contributor on the field, an All Australian, a premiership player and consistently a top-10 club champion finisher.

“He’s got the runs on the board and also what he contributes to the club off the field is fantastic.”

Smith joins young gun Luke Parker in recommitting to the Swans in 2016.
