Richmond streak irrelevant: Port coach

Richmond’s winning streak is irrelevant, says Port Adelaide coach Ken Hinkley.

The Tigers won nine consecutive games to storm into the finals, while their elimination final opponent Port slid to fifth after being top midseason.

“Richmond are nine-zip, we have won four of 11 in the back half,” Hinkley told reporters on Monday.

“Those things don’t worry me. I don’t care one bit about them.

“I’m really comfortable with our form, I think we’re in really good shape … we are ready.”

“They (Richmond) will look forward to coming to Adelaide, they were only over here a few weeks back and played Adelaide and went home with a win.

“So they’re confidence is sky high. Our confidence is OK too.”

Hinkley forecast few, if any, changes to Port’s side for Sunday’s knockout final at Adelaide Oval, with speedster Matt White, who has battled a groin injury, a certain starter.

White was substituted for consecutive matches in Port’s loss to Fremantle which cost the Power fourth spot and a double chance in the finals.

“I’m disappointed we couldn’t finish higher. But I’ll be disappointed we didn’t finish higher until we get to (number) one,” Hinkley said.

“That is what we’re chasing, we’re chasing to become the best team in the competition.”
