Coach Ken Hinkley denies Port Adelaide is splintering into disharmony as its troubled AFL season continues.

The Power were thrashed by 48 points by Geelong on Saturday night – their third heavy defeat in four weeks.

But Hinkley scoffs at speculation of disquiet between players and club chairman David Koch, who labelled Port a “disgrace” after last week’s loss to GWS.

“David has made a comment – let’s be big enough to handle it,” Hinkley said.

“Let’s just keep together as a footy club.

“Let’s just say `ok, we’re all disappointed – the chairman, the CEO, the coach, the players, and clearly the supporters’.

“And they have got every right to be disappointed.

“When you get disappointment, you have to be able to be honest.”

Port are now with a 2-3 win-loss record – with victories against lowly St Kilda and Essendon.

Hinkley said his players were clearly out of form.

“Our contest inside is ineffective at the moment. And when under real pressure, it’s breaking down, we understand that,” he said.

“And then our ability to use the ball with that same pressure is causing us some great concern.”

Hinkley vowed to work even harder to help the club live to its `never give up’ mantra.

“The slogan says `we never give up’,” Hinkley said.

“You know what, the `never give up’ means we will never give up on the whole thing – it’s not just about tonight and one quarter or a half.

“When it gets tough, that is when you have got to to see whether you will give up.

“Well, this footy club won’t give up.

“We will stay together and work damn hard to make sure we can improve.”
