‘Pies star injured again in AFL training

Collingwood star Ben Reid has suffered another injury that will set back his AFL pre-season training by up to six weeks.

The 2010 premiership player and 2011 All-Australian hurt a calf muscle at Monday’s training

Reid is one of the Magpies’ most important players, but he only managed four senior games last season because of a succession of leg injuries.

Collingwood chief executive Gary Pert revealed the bad news at a Tuesday club sponsorship announcement.

Pert said the key position player would be out of action for four to six weeks.

Reid had been on a special training program to bring him back up to full fitness.

He was on the verge of returning to training with his team-mates, but suffered the setback during his warm-up.

Pert described the injury as a tweak, rather than a tear, but it adds to growing concerns about Reid’s vulnerability to injury.

“It’s not the greatest of Christmas presents for Collingwood,” Pert said.

“We’re hoping it doesn’t jeopardise his start to the season.”
