Odds say Buddy Franklin could win 2014 Coleman/Brownlow Medal double

He’s already got a third Coleman Medal in the bag and now the odds are shortening for Buddy Franklin to add the 2014 Brownlow Medal to his bulging trophy cabinet.

Franklin firmed from $15 to $12 at Sportingbet.com.au after booting six goals in Sydney’s 63 point win over the Bulldogs. According to Sportingbet’s AFL analysts, Franklin earned another two votes for the performance to take his overall season tally to 19 votes.

Gary Ablett remains the $3 favourite at Sportingbet.

“We’ve got Buddy five votes behind Ablett but if our calculations are wrong and he plays and polls the maximum against Richmond then he’s well and truly in it,” Sportingbet’s Andrew Brown said.

Sportingbet.com.au market

Gary Ablett $3 (steady)

Joel Selwood $3.50 (was $3)

Robbie Gray $9 (was $17)

Josh Kennedy $10 (was $11)

Dyson Heppell $11(was $10)

Lance Franklin $12 (was $15)

Matt Priddis $13 (was $7)

Scott Pendlebury $14 (was $11)

Jordan Lewis $15 (was $31)

Others $26+

Port Adelaide’s Robbie Gray has been the best backed over the past week, attracting more than 250 individual bets that have resulted in his odds being cut from $17 into $9 third favouritism.

“Gray is a long way down the leader board according to our estimates but clearly there’s plenty of punters out there who disagree with us.”

Jordan Lewis has also been well supported, firming from $31 to $15 after a high-volume of bets including one $2,000 by $3,000 each-way wager worth $105,000 should he win.

Sportingbet’s running Brownlow Medal vote tally (below) shows the ineligible Nathan Fyfe level with Ablett on 24.5 votes after Round 22.

Sportingbet’s analysts award half votes when they can’t split certain player performances, a system that has proven to balance out over the course of the season and provide a more accurate prediction of a player’s final vote numbers.
