Days after appearing in court over an alleged taxi robbery, Trent Dumont has been dropped by North Melbourne for Friday night’s AFL fixture against Richmond.
Dumont, who appeared in an Adelaide court on Wednesday and was ordered to stand trial next year, was dumped in favour of Mason Wood for Tasmania’s first Friday night game.
Richmond, after three consecutive wins, named an unchanged side for the Hobart match.
Melbourne confirmed former co-captain Jack Trengove’s first game in more than two years against Hawthorn on Saturday at the MCG, with Chris Dawes also returning for the Demons.
Melbourne coach Paul Roos made five changes – two forced by injury – to face the Hawks who lost Matt Spangher to a hamstring strain and rested Will Langford, summoning rookie Daniel Howe and debutant Kade Stewart.
Collingwood included Travis Cloke for Sunday’s MCG match against Port Adelaide – he hasn’t played AFL since Anzac Day – but couldn’t consider Alex Fasolo (shoulder), Taylor Adams (hamstring) or Darcy Moore (collarbone).
The Magpies named Brent Macaffer, Ben Sinclair, Jarrod Witts, Matt Goodyear and Jonathon Marsh also in a 25-man squad while Port included Logan Austin for a possible AFL debut.
Gold Coast coach Rodney Eade axed five players among six changes for Saturday night’s home match against an unchanged Sydney.
Eade lost patience with Seb Tape, Matt Shaw, Henry Schade, Luke Russell and Clay Cameron while Sean Lemmens is out with a rib injury.
Carlton lost captain Marc Murphy to an ankle injury for Saturday’s match against Brisbane, whose captain Tom Rockliff returns from an injury-enforced stint on the sidelines.
And Geelong coach Chris Scott dumped three players – Jordan Murdoch, Billie Smedts and Cory Gregson – for Lincoln McCarthy, Daniel Menzel and Tom Ruggles in Saturday’s top-eight shaping game against Greater Western Sydney.
The Giants are strengthened by the return of co-captain Phil Davis but Rhys Palmer (toe) and Adam Kennedy (shoulder) were ruled out of the trip to Geelong.
Fremantle included stalwart David Mundy for Saturday’s match against Essendon, who rested James Kelly among three changes.
